IF YOU DON’T TELL ME HOW WILL I KNOW?
Last week Paul wrote eloquently about the tone of what we say and how it can be interpreted; how things lose their intent or meaning and things get lost in translation. In keeping with that theme again this week I feel there is another important part to what we say, and how we say it. And that is actually speaking the truth and telling people who you are and what you want. It is not just tone, though tone… Read More
SOUND ADVICE
There’s a Far Side cartoon by Gary Larson that’s a personal favorite. It’s a two-panel piece with one side showing a dog owner scolding his dog and the other showing what the dog hears. So, “Okay Ginger, I’ve had it! You stay out of the garbage! Understand Ginger?” In the first panel becomes “Blah, blah Ginger! Blah, blah, blah, Ginger, blah, blah!” in the second. Very funny. I miss seeing Larson’s daily offerings. I suppose he’s right about the… Read More

CRAZY
A few days ago I posted a Waylon Jennings quote that I love. “I may be crazy, but it keeps me from going insane.” It started me thinking about the difference between crazy and insane. A MASK FOR EVERY OCCASION
Master manipulator at your service. Oh. You don’t need to be manipulated? Okay. How about a liar? I’m a real good liar. Don’t need one of those either? Hmm. I know. How about a victim? I can play that role with the best of them. Wow really? Not that either. I thought for sure you’d want a victim. What do you want? Excuse me? You want me to just be me? Yeah that might be a problem. Who am… Read More

DIVIDENDS OF A DIFFICULT MIND
One might say I have been blessed with an overactive mind; one might say I have been cursed with an overactive mind; one might say I simply have a mind—and it’s the only one I have this time around. Gifts and challenges come in the same package. My mind is complex and busy, maybe brilliant at times, and it would rarely give me a rest if I had not developed practices and strategies for managing it. In EVERY DAY,… Read More

FIRST RESPONDER
As we all know the first responder is the person on the scene of an accident or crime that shows up ( hopefully) before anyone else. EMS, Police, Firemen, the first ones we rely on in case of emergency. They are fast. They are proficient in being ready to move in a split second. They are so trained to act they don’t actually have to think. That ingrained sense of “I’m on my way” is why you hear about… Read More
