THE MASTER OF NOW

THE MASTER OF NOW

His name is Marco. The other cats in the household call him Mister Marco. He and his sibs have been in the family for 10 years, gifted to us in our back yard, where they were born while we were on vacation. Have no idea who mom and dad were. Like many of the world’s wonderful creatures, these little guys provide unwavering loyalty, unconditional love, and sweet companionship. But as of late, I’ve realized that Marco is here for… Read More

FINDING CONTENTMENT ON A RAINY DAY

FINDING CONTENTMENT ON A RAINY DAY

Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” ― Lao Tzu   I was given an amazing gift recently when I headed out to try a new yoga class. It was one of those cold and grey rainy New York days and I almost bailed a few times on the eight block walk as my mind kept telling me I had more important… Read More

5 WAYS TO LET GO AND BE IN THE MOMENT

5 WAYS TO LET GO AND BE IN THE MOMENT

“Some people think it’s holding that makes one strong – sometimes it’s letting go.” ~Unknown~ On a recent fall day I was in New York City’s beautiful Central Park teaching my boot-camp class with an amazing group of women. We mix it up with cardio, strength training and yoga and we love being outside. We often close with a relaxation pose, lying on our backs on the ground. As we got comfortable and opened our hearts towards the sky, we… Read More

LESSONS IN GRATITUDE FROM THE CAN-LADY

LESSONS IN GRATITUDE FROM THE CAN-LADY

What began as a typical Thursday became a life-changing moment that nearly brought me to my knees. I was up early, preparing our daughter’s breakfast before school, racing to run the dog out, rushing to get ready for work as a health coach and writer in NYC and had a brief, but not uncommon, squabble about money with my husband. The financial frustration the American middle-class feels is alive and kicking in our home. Our oldest is getting married,… Read More

GAINFUL SOBRIETY

GAINFUL SOBRIETY

My wife and I were talking the other day about how things have changed for us, and how I have changed since I’ve been in recovery. I would like to say that it’s all good, but it would be more accurate to say things are…a whole lot better. And isn’t that what we look for – progress, not perfection, as the slogan goes? It’s taken me a while to realize that recovery is much more than cessation of use.… Read More

A FULL EXPERIENCE

A FULL EXPERIENCE

I was in Lake Tahoe over the summer for 5 days. On our last full day there we hiked up to Angora Lake which is somewhat off the beaten path. Service roads to get there. That kind of place. Um yeah. Kind of stunning. Paddle boarding, rock diving, kayaking to name a few of the activities. Not a huge lake but big enough. Like I said, stunning. Oh and if that’s not enough they have fresh squeezed lemonade. Yum! A… Read More

RELATIVELY SUCCESSFUL

RELATIVELY SUCCESSFUL

The other evening I had dinner with a long-time pal. He gets to town every couple of months and, being from the Midwest, jumps at the chance to eat Mexican food whenever he’s this close to the border. Normally we talk about what great families we are blessed to have and dirt bikes and camping – in that order – but this night he was way off center. He kept talking about work. My friend has managed a successful… Read More

LAUNDRY

LAUNDRY

I’m having a really tough time right now. It’s my day off and laundry is on my list of things to do. Yet when i went out to put in a load in the washing machine I found someone else’s clothes sitting in there. Wet having gone through a cycle. Yeah. I live in a apartment complex. Community washer and dryer. Don’t like it. I used to live in a place that had it’s own right in the apartment. Talk… Read More
