THE LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE OF BEING TIDY

Keep only those things that speak to your heart. Then take the plunge and discard all the rest. By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle.

~ Marie Kondo

I am a neatnik, an OCD everything has a place, can’t leave the house with an unmade bed, sink full of dishes, dirty clothes on the floor person. I can drive people nuts with my overly organizational ways.  But I have always believed that an organized environment sets the tone and the background for an organized life.  That clutter causes nervousness; that having to much stuff gets in the way of progress and discipline.  One of my favorite activities is sorting, purging, giving things away and making sure everything has a home.

Marie Kondo’s bestselling book “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” not only teaches you how to declutter and simplify but turns it into almost a spiritual practice.  The book could be called “Zen and the Art of DeCluttering.”

It’s the New Year and we’re starting many things afresh.  How many of you have a box, a drawer a closet of chords, plugs, chargers and connectors to things you no longer own, use or have any idea where they go? I recently went though a giant basket and threw out seventy-five. I had those two prong things with the yellow and the red ends, Who ever uses those? But heaven forbid I throw one out, I might need it some day. NOT.

I recently found all my bank statements from when I was married to my first husband. I have been married to my present husband for over 16 years! GONE.

We all hoard in one way or another and holding on to anything be it a cell phone case we have no use for, or a way of being in the world that has outworn its welcome holds us back. It keeps us from new things, new experiences and that wondrous sense of order and space.

We only really use what we love anyway, so why hold onto what we don’t?  That is the lesson in my reading selection for this week.

Something Needs To Change and It’s Probably Your House!

Well, some part of your house.

Despite all my tidying up and giving away – I had a ton of organized chaos.  Marie Kondo teaches you to do objects at time. All clothes, all pots and pans. I am doing a drawer by drawer thing now. Today I found two cameras that no longer work and six remote controls to old cable boxes we no longer own. Ahhh the endorphin  rush that came over me when I unloaded them.

So, if you’re looking for a way to change your world that is both exterior and interior I highly recommend ~
