THE GIFT OF THE SPIRIT

THE GIFT OF THE SPIRIT

“IT’S BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE”

This quote is attributed to so many sources from The Bible to Mark Twain and several in between.  We can argue it’s better to give of ourselves than it is to give loot – so to speak. But, it is that time of year when the exchanging of gifts is part of the process of celebrating.

On my other blog I do a lot of gift ideas.  This year it was fun for me to search around for gifts of the spirit. Gifts that make us a little more centered, keep us in our spiritual path and help us stay serene and centered.

Which doesn’t mean if you can afford it and want to do it, sticking a bow on a new car is not a grand idea, but few can, and it is the thought that counts.  But if the thought is one that involves our gratitude and trusty ways, so much the better.

In light of that here are a few ideas for whatever holiday you might celebrate.

The only thing better is a laughing Buddha. This one from the gift store at the Metropolitan Museum in NY.

My big promise to myself in the new year is that I will mediate each morning. I will need a boost, some mediation tapes from audible are a great gift. And Pema Chodron is the best.

I am a candle freak. There is something magical and spiritual about the light of a burning candle. I think this one is unusual and $30.00.
