BOOK SELECTION OF THE WEEK

BOOK SELECTION OF THE WEEK

Pico Iyer is primarily known for his travel writing.  He jets around the globe more than a pilot with an International route.  But he has also always been a seeker of secular serenity. He has written several books about it. He has travelled with the Dalai Lama. He spends time each year in different types of retreats in search of quiet, peace and stillness. In this, his latest book, and one of TED’s first in their new publishing enterprise, Pico gives us THE ART OF STILLNESS, Pico discovers and shares how to find stillness within.  This is not a book that dictates how you should  sit and mediate. Though he is not opposed to it.  But the book is about how we can be still by not moving, by not going out of ourselves and away from ourselves. We do not need fancy retreats and specific ordained rituals, stillness is inside of us, it is about unplugging, being quiet, allowing the empty space to be the space we choose and not filling it with distractions and noise. No matter where you are and what is going on, there are ways to be still.  Pick up this book and let Pico explain  how.
